This morning's sermon was by Dr. Steve Griffiths. Text was taken from Daniel 1:1-21
Sermon title: God at work.
Dr Steve Griffiths spoke about how we as Christians can shine and glorify God and share the good news in our own school/workplace/family/friends. He spoke about how God was at work during Daniel's training in Babylon. Although, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah were chosen to serve the king, and they had to have their names changed and to learn new language and literature, however, Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine that were offered by the king. The reason why Daniel rejected the royal food was because he does not want to be "contaminated" because the royal food were offered to the babylonian gods before them. that is one reason why Daniel rejected the food.
Also, Daniel do not want to be bought by the king. Because he knew that if he were to accept the food and wine that the king had offered, in the future, it is very difficult to refuse the jobs given to him by the king. and should the jobs offered to Daniel were against our God, Daniel will be caught in the situation such that he cannot not defy the Lord, neither can he defy the orders of the king.
However, God was at work! God has caused the official to show favour and sympathy to Daniel when daniel refused the royal food and asked for veg and water instead. The Babylonian king was able to change Daniel's name, BUT, he cannot change Daniel's nature. Daniel was obedient and turned to God everyday. He remained faithful to God throughout the 60 years living in a highly hostile environment.
We often thought that it is impossible to glorify God or to do His works in a what seemed to be an unfavourable environment. be it in the workplace or schools, or even in our own family. However, we fail to realize that God is always with us and all we have to and need to do is to rely on Him, do what He tells us to, and He will make our paths straight. Daniel kept God at the center of his life and God sustained him. Many people, even ourselves, at times will conform to what the world think and do. That is very ungodly and we as children of God should not be doing.
Today's sermon served as a very good reminder to me especially, when so many times i felt bitter about not being able to own smth (itouch/iphone etc) that my friends and even my own sisters owned. However, today, God reminded me that earthly treasures should not be something which we should be going after. ultimately, one day, all of us will have to return home to the Lord and these earthly things which we owned, we will not be able bring them with us. Rather than spending our time slogging away to earn more money to buy the earthly treasures, why shouldnt we spend more time in sowing and harvesting for God and build heavenly treasures? In Psalm 62: 11-12 "One thing God has spoken, two things have i heard: that you, O God are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done."
Every moment that i live, your Mighty hand is doing wonders for me. Amen!

Food for thought..
heard it over the radio this afternoon:
Mother Hen adopting 2 puppies. have you heard about it?
Amazing isn't it?
There was once a dog which died after giving birth to 2 young puppies.
The dog and the chicken were the best of friends. They were always seen playing together.
After the Mother Dog had died, the owner could not find the 2 puppies.
Guess where were the dogs?
They were found under the Hen's coop.
A hen that took her initiative to "Adopt" her best friend's children. How cool is that?! :)

I rejected the job interview
as u all know, i went for a job interview yesterday @ NTUC's My First Skool @ Hougang Ave 4. However, yesterday morning, we too had our company's Vision Day whereby all the various departments of the company will come together to celebrate the successes by which the company had earned for the first quarter of the year.
We really do not know how God works until you experience it for yourself. Initially, i kind of set my mind in wanting to leave JG for another centre (As of the previous post entry), however, after listening to Julia gabriel, Fiona Walker and both the prog sales and marketing dept heads, i suddenly realised just how good God has ALWAYS been to me and all these while and i only realised it now!shame on me.. =(
However, there was one part when Julia came up to speak after our 20-min break, she got everybody to think abt what's happiness and what's pleasure. To me, the only person, ONE AND ONLY PERSON who can FILL the EMPTY SPACE in my HEART and give me TRUE HAPPINESS is NONE OTHER THAN MY HEAVELY FATHER, CHRIST JESUS. I believe that it is ONLY through the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ that we may enter into His ETERNAL KINGDOM and have ETERNAL LIFE. For it is written (In the bible): 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God -- Matthew 4:1.
So, when Julia got everybody to close their eyes to meditate, i was praying VERY HARD and was literally crying out to God to get me out of the situation. The reason why Christians CANNOT and are advised strongly against Meditation is because, when a person meditates, he or she will try to block out everything from his or her mind and leave it blank. When we leave our minds blank, we are actually allowing the Satan to intrude into our spiritual realm and soul. When tt happens, we will sin. as it is, we are all sinners. we do not need satan to tempt us to sin against God. But at this point, take comfort that the Lord will not tempt us beyond what you can bear, for it is written (in the bible): "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." taken from 1 Corinthians 10:13. But! this is definitely NOT a reason for us to sin. Because, it is also written in the bible: "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." taken from Matthew 26:41. also, be mindful, for in Matthew 4:7, Jesus said to satan "Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test."
ok ok.. i think i got alittle carried away.. in any case, after Julia's short sharing, i was urgent. so i had to go answer nature's call. when i was in the cubicle, i took e opportunity to msg Doreen (my mentor) to keep me in prayer with regards to tt situation and after tt, i also wanted to take the opportunity to pray. however, just as i started to pray, i heard someone from the next cubicle calling me. "Chui Ting?" said Su. r..i..ght.. cant pray now. nvm. shall pray later. Cuz Su was asking me about smth tt's work related. So since then, we started talking and talking till the end of the whole event! we stayed outside the auditorium and skipped the entire last part of the event whereby Julia invited the speaker, (apparently, she's the AWARE's president.. thou i forgot her name) to talk to us abt "Happiness". well, obviously, i'm not very interested. neither were my colleague, Jovanna and direct superior, Su. so we had a really good chat the entire time! :) and this is a huge breakthrough for me. because, right from the beginning, ever since i joined the company, Su intimidates me. dun ask me why? she just intimidates me. But! God is good! tt was the PERFECT opportunity for us to "break" the ice and we that was FIRST time ever tt i can talk and chat so happily and comfortably with Su.
after tt, we all head back to East Coast to clean up all the mess in my class's storeroom. i really appreciates ALL my colleagues. we all worked hard as a team, and could get EVERYTHING done by 5pm. thereafter, i made my way down to Hougang Ave 4, blk 667 for the interview. however, this time, i was praying very hard to ask God to give me the wisdom as i go through the interview. Also, i aldy have in mind tt i am going to stay in JGC and i will look up my HOD, Raihan and ask her if i could be under training again and eventually, lead a class of my own.
So yup! i rejected the principal and looked for Raihan this afternoon to talk about my promotion. after hearing what i had to say to her, we discussed about what type of prog is suitable for me to do. so, hopefully next yr on, i can be under training again. :)
on the side note.. i miss my darling, wenyao... :X

Route to independence...
although i have been working and left to deal with my own stuff without having to keep asking my parents for help for a few years now? however, there were times when i'm still very dependent on my parents, sisters, darling and friends for help.
For example, how to get to a certain destination. esp if it comes to taking the bus. i am very bad with directions. really. but! this time round, as i was trying to find out the venue of the place where i'm going for my job interview, i had no one to turn to except to ask God to give me wisdom and several search engine.
Although, at the end of everything, i just realised that i went the long way in getting my way ard by looking at the maps? but it's alright. I was in fact FORCED to read the map and trying my best to visualise out and try to figure my way ard it. Lo and behold! i did it! not by my own strength, but by God's strength.
i did it! i did it! with God-given's wisdom! :) i could read and understand the map and know which route to take to the pre-sch centre. :)
anyway, for those who still do not know, throughout the week, i have been sending out my resume to several centres. yes. i'm thinking of leaving Julia Gabriel and teach in a normal pre-school setting (cuz JGC's an enrichment centre) where i can plan and execute out my own lesson plans and teach a class of my own. yes, there WILL be alot of things that i'll need to handle on my own tog with my assistant teachers such as changing of nappies (for the children who are still toilet training if i'm taking the toddlers' age grp), bathe the children, take care of their meals, nap time and so forth. also, there are much more responsibilities such as preparing their portfolios and put up class displays, deal with crying children, deal with difficult parents and so forth..
But, i do believe that this is the route that God wants me to go since He has led me to this career path. After doing tons and tons of assignments, practicums, readings and working experience, and plus the extra dosage of passion for children, i believe that through Him, i can touch the lives of the little ones and overcome all obstacles. If God's willing, i really do hope that i can get the job. it's near my place, and it's where i want to teach. For those who will read this before tmr, pls keep me in prayer. It's been a long long long time since i last went for an interview. Pray for journey mercy, wisdom and courage as i speak to the centre supervisor.

the first week so far
without my darling beside me physically.. has been quite good. and it's really by the grace of God. I am so so so thankful that i have our mighty Father in heaven to lean back on and to turn to. and also, my mum, sisters, and church friends. :)
Broke down a few times while i was in the shower during the first few nights. But after that, later that night, or the next morning, when i do my QT, i felt much much better.
These few days, after work, i'll go straight home. Couldnt concentrate on my assignment thou. but i tell myself, i have to concentrate and score well. For the sake of God, daddy, mummy, darling and myself. So, i managed to start a little bit of my assingment last night.
Today, after work, i'm gg home to pack the swimming stuff, then head down to yang's place (condo)for a swim. havent got the mood to get down to run. so a swim would be good. must swim at least 7 laps. :) swimming with yee of course. after that, we'll go up to yang's place to play with his baby niece! she's super cute! :) then, we'll probably go have dinner tog, then go watch a movie.
Gonna meet up with my classmate Caihua tmr. since e botth of us are not working. Before gg down to church by 6pm to meet Doreen to discuss about what time to meet for our 1st mentoring session. oh yes! except my sis, i havent really told anyone else tt she has accepted me as her mentee. :) Will want to work on my biblical knowledge and on darling and my relationship. it's always good to have someone to be accountable to. :)
okay.. shall stop here for now.. bye people..
to my dearest darling,i love you and miss you tremendously. but God is good! He has been sustaining me for the first week well. and i totally place my trust in Him that darling and I will work out despite the distance, and to God be the Glory! Amen? Amen. :)
Love,
Ting

The time has come...
Finally. 16th Aug 2009. my darling has departed from Singapore to the States. but! at 2358, i received a call from an unknown number.
Me: Hello?
Unknown: Hello.
Me: Hello? may i know who's this speaking?
Unknown: erm.. someone from the airplane?
Me: Darling!!! oh my goodness! what..
darling: mummy called dad saying that they got lost.
and the conversation continued for a short while. shall not reveal all.. :p
know why? cuz apparently, there were some errors. so their flight was delayed for another 1-2 hours. right. so now, i'm waiting for dear's call. he's supposed to give me a missed call. :p nvm. maybe he's busy. :)
Today, i was very strong. not by my own strength? but by God's strength. Met up with darling at 8am at KAP macs. before walking down to the market near church to meet Aaron for breakfast. It has always been a tradition for Aaron and dear to meet up on sunday mornings for breakfast before they go for the 1130 service. :) After church, dear went to meet his parents and bro at his 3e's place near Bukit Timah. while i.. make my way home.
At ard 4 plus, made my way down to dear's hse for dinner from home. packed his room, while he do some last minute packing and checking. Then, we had a wonderful home-cooked meal prepared by his mum. *slurp* the steamed fish and duck stew were superb! :)
After that, we load all the luggages into the car, and his dad drove down to the airport from their place. Shortly after we've reached there, some of his friends arrived. Before we knew it, many others arrived too. we were busy chit chatting, taking pictures and praying. It was fun actually! this was like the happiest farewell at the departure hall tt i'd ever came across! :)
although i did teared a little cuz of Aaron (but i totally understood why. He and dear are really close). anyhow, i stayed strong and with the support of his CG, mum, church friends and Peter Chew, and of cuz! God! i wasnt feeling as bad as i thought i would feel. :p
Thank you everyone for your presence! very very heartwarming to see the church leaders, church friends, dear's best buddies, and army friends to come see him off. very very nice of them. :)
Darling will be changing plane and boarding again at ard 0100 thereabout? in the meantime, i've just spoken to him over the phone. all's well. his only concern is tt his dad's feeling hungry. cuz his dad only had porridge during dinner. hopefully they board on the plane soon. :) and i shall listen to dear and go to bed soon. gotta work tmr. and after work, i will go back to my running routine and continue with my assignment. :) ciaoz people!
May the love of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be with you and forevermore. Amen! goodnight! :)
p.s. i love you darling. :-*

know why? cuz apparently, there were some errors. so their flight was delayed for another 1-2 hours. right. so now, i'm waiting for dear's call. he's supposed to give me a missed call. :p nvm. maybe he's busy.
